When the founding members of Woodlawn Baptist Church held their first Sunday services in the old log cabin, they probably could never have envisioned the buildings in which we now occupy today. However, they definitely would have understood the need to build additional facilities, especially when they started removing walls in the cabin to make a larger sanctuary and meeting under trees on the lawn for Sunday school classes. Today we are grateful for their wise leadership and faithful building that has resulted in reaching so many citizens of Crestview for the kingdom of God.
The people of God are His church and not the buildings themselves. Through the years, however, many lives have been dramatically changed because of the work done inside of our buildings. For example, in our educational facilities, children have accepted Christ through Vacation Bible School, Sunday school, and children's worship. In our worship centers, we've witnessed senior adults come to know the Lord personally for the first time during revival services. In our Fellowship Hall, we've grown closer as a church family over many a meal, often celebrating the completion of another facility added to our campus because of God's graceful hand on our church.
Once again this church has come to a place in which the needs of our members and the needs of the people we hope to reach for Christ in our community exceed the capability of our current buildings. This has happened many times in Woodlawn's fifty-year history. Now it is time for our generation to step out in faith, knowing that all we have is God's, and embark on this journey together to reach future generations of Crestview for Christ.
Some of these needs include more adequate nursery and preschool facilities, a larger Fellowship Hall with a kitchen to serve the entire church body, an improved fellowship space for the youth, additional education space for adults and senior adults, a dedicated space for children's worship, and finally, a permanent choir rehearsal area.
We will build a new educational facility in order to meet the first two needs. We will remodel the existing Fellowship Hall in order to create two dedicated areas, one for children's worship and one for choir rehearsals. We will remodel the upstairs portion of the Blue Room to give the youth their own space for fellowship. Finally, we will do minor renovations on the existing nursery building to make it suitable for adult education.
These new and remodeled facilities will allow Woodlawn Baptist Church to "grow today" and "reach tomorrow" for the kingdom of God.
